This past weekend Dan and I went on a road trip to visit family and meet our new niece, Claire. We left on Thursday morning driving first up to the Adirondacks to visit Dan’s aunt and uncle and stay at their gorgeous cabin. We got there in late afternoon and just vegged, drank wine and ate a great meal while chatting and going through wedding photos.
On Friday we woke up and decided to go snowshoeing. I got new snowshoes and trekking poles for Christmas and wanted to use them, so we headed to Garnet Hill cross country ski area for the morning. The trails were really nice and we had a great time, despite the frigid temperatures. We hiked around for a couple of hours and then headed back to town for lunch. The rest of the day we chatted and then headed to bed early anticipating the drive to Rochester the next morning.
Saturday morning we went to meet our new niece and see Dan’s sister. We had a great time playing with the kiddos and stopped at the outlet mall to see if there were any deals as well.
On Sunday I had a 14 mile run to do for my marathon training. I knew it would be really cold and came prepared (it was 15 degrees when I headed out), but I hadn’t really anticipated that the sidewalks I would run on would be snowy. I was able to run in the shoulder of the road for some of the route, but mostly I ended up running on the snow, which was fine and even added a little cushion, while also forcing me to slow down.
Monday was a “free day” for us before we had planned to drive back home on Tuesday. We decided to go to Niagra Falls, since I had never been. We even opted for the Canadian side because “it is better.” However the weather was not the best, it was raining, cold and foggy, but I got to see them! We walked around for about 45 minutes and then headed to Buffalo for wings at Duffs, which according to Dan is the best place for wings.
We headed back to DC after lunch on Tuesday. It was a long trip with a lot of driving, but it was great to see everyone.
